Door County 2010--group shots
Matchy matchy. :)

Below you will take in what is becoming, year by year and child by child, pure photography hell. (And my brother said it couldn't be done. I scoff in the face your photography challenges, Johnny.)
Yeah, really, no small task.
Did I mention my Mom actually drew faces on every last shirt? Door County with Nana? Epic, people.
Epic.

Ned pics from Door County 2010
We're just back from my side of the family's Labor Day weekend Door County tradition. As usual, it was a really, really nice time.
Sooooo...I took 1,000 pictures. Yes, one thousand. In three days.
I have a problem. Moving on.
So it'll take more brain cells than I have operational at this exact moment to dig in and pull out the highlights for my main post, but in briefly scanning through tonight, I realized that Ned is in need of a dedicated post because, shameless Mama pride alert, she is just so dang gorgeous and vibrant that it seemed a shame to be limited by the confines of the main post.
And it's my blog. And I'm a proud Mama. So there. :) The big post is coming. Probably tomorrow.

"can't yove you baaaack..."
Okay, so it's no secret that Ned and Kai Lan spend too much time with each other. (Okay, okay, lest you get the wrong idea about me and everything I claim to be, Ned watches Kai Lan at most an hour a day. And then no more TV. Just to clear that up. Ahem.)
Anyway, Kai Lan, Tolee, HoHo, Rintu--the whole gang--all regularly say "love" with reference to objects or events. Like, "I love YeYe's dumplings!" or "I love Chinese New Year!" So Ned started picking up this colloquialism. "I yove olives!" or "I yove digging in dirt!"
So, one day, I said, "Nedy, you can't love olives because they can't love you back. You like olives. Get it?"
Yeah, she got it. A little too well.
Every time anyone, including Kai Lan and her cast of characters, says "love" with reference to something incapable of feelings, Ned corrects them. Every.Freakin'.Time. Like, without fail. From across the room when you swore for sure she was concentrating on putting a puzzle together you might, for the sake of example, hear "can't yove you baaaack..." in response to a simple utterance about how much you loooove chocolate. For example. Ahem.
And, since that day of the love vs. like discussion, she has completely changed her own speech. She uses "like" almost exclusively for non-creatures (how else do I say it?) now and, if in an excited lapse of reason utters "love" (or "yove", as the case may be) about olives, she quickly corrects herself, "Oooops, I mean I yike oyives, dey can't yove me back."
It is hilarious. Adorable. And occasionally annoying. Because maybe chocolate does "yove" me back...

We're engaged.
On the way home from Grandma's tonight:
-
Nedy: "Mama, what 'married' mean?"Sooooo...ummmm...I think I'm engaged to my daughter. My Mom always says we're a little weird. I guess she's right. :)
Mama: "Married is when two people love each other and want to be on the same team in life. They promise to love each other and take care of each other all their lives. When people get married they usually live together in the same house and raise kids together."
Nedy: "Ummmm...when people get married?"
Mama: "When they're older, like maybe 30."
Nedy: "Hey Mama? I yike to marry you when I owder. Okay?"
Mama: "That's sweet, Ned. Sure, I'll marry you. Or somethin' like it, anyway."

Wednesday in Chicago
Nedy's been talking about Chinese Acrobats for a while now. (What happens in Kai-Lan must be replicated in real life. Just so you know. Ahem.) Anyway, I needed no arm twisting to make this happen--Mama loves her some Chinese Acrobats. :)
Cirque Shanghai is in Chicago this summer at Navy Pier. Guess what we did Wednesday?
Well, first we took a water taxi from Michigan Avenue to Navy Pier. (N: "Why wiver all geen yike dat?" M: "That's just how the river looks in Chicago. Cool, eh?" N: "I yike dis geen wiver. I yike Ch'cago.")
And then to the acrobat show! It is so cool that they do a 2:00 p.m. show. Ned watched the show intently, only occasionally turning around to see if we were as enthralled as she. Sometimes she'd give a status report on the performers such as, "Mama, the mens are out now. Dat means yadies changing costumes. Dey come out next. Okay?"
"You see it, Baba?? You yike dis show? I yike dis show a yot!"
After the show some of the performers hang around to meet people and sign show paraphernalia. Nedy was totally pumped about this and, after seeing how it all worked, quickly got Baba to buy her a fan so she could have "acwobats wite der names on it."
She walked down the line from person to person saying "ni hao" with such a sparkle in her eye. She was the last of just a few people to do this, so the acrobats poured their attention on her--and she was just beaming. I mean, BEAMING.
Leaving the show with her special fan in hand...just look at the child. I mean, am I the only one whose heart is melting into a puddle of goo? :)
So how do you follow-up the acrobat show? Well, with a ride on the humongous Navy Pier Ferris Wheel, of course! Contemplative Nedy wonders how she'll feel about this next experience...
It's a winner! Fair to say she has no fear of heights whatsoever.
"I yike dis fewis wheew. I even take yitto west inside dis fewis wheew."
Self portrait nearing the tippy top.
And then we took the water taxi back to Michigan Ave and walked down to Millennium Park. Oh, but not before purchasing Nedy her first sucker ever. She picked it out. She was soooooo excited about that crazy huge sucker.

Ummm, how cute are they?!
And we ended our crazy fun day with an impromptu dip in the public water sculpture in Millennium Park. For the record, we both rode home without pants. Good times.
Nedy's thoughts upon awakening Thursday morning? "I yike Ch'cago. I had fun wit you, Mama." Right back at ya, babe.
